到了比赛那天,赛前的观众席里,一道道异样的目光投向男孩,目光里有讥笑,有嘲讽,有愤怒……面对一道道“冷箭”,男孩昂起头,以无比的勇气回敬着,然后坚毅地注视着前方,投入比赛。裁判的一声枪响,男孩以迅雷不及掩耳之势冲出去,比风还快,他向冠军冲去。当就快到终点的时候,一个坐在观众席上的白人向跑道扔了一瓶还没有打开的汽水,砸到了男孩的头,他重重地摔在跑道上,鲜血瞬间从他的头上流下来,比路道还红。眼看白人选手一个个地超过他,此刻他知道与冠军已失之交臂,此刻他知道他辜负了黑人社会给予他的厚望,此刻他知道赛道旁正有许多人等着看黑人的笑话。男孩立刻用尽全身力气爬起来,因为他知道此刻他需要用无比的勇气去面对这突如其来的挫折,他一瘸一拐地走着,跌了再起,起了再跌,到最后的时候,他再也起不来了,他只好用自己的指甲抠着地面艰难地向前爬去,他的指甲破了,流出血来,在赛道上拖出了一百多米的血迹。最后,他终于爬到了终点,观众席上再也没有讥讽与歧视,只剩下欢呼声与掌声。男孩以勇气为黑人赢得了尊严,为自己赢得了敬重。大家都觉得黑人才是真正的第一,给他挂上了第一枚闪光的金牌。
